Greetings Matthew,
Glad to see you back on CE

No, I'm not a member of HSLDA. According to HSLDA,"...to the best of our knowledge neither HSLDA nor any other legal advocacy organization had any knowledge that the right of all homeschoolers in California was depending upon the outcome of this family?s case." In another statement they said, "we didn't even see this coming." I find that a bit odd after all they are a HSLDA and if anyone they should know. I know other states are clamping down on homeschooling as well. For example, "Thirteen hundred Nebraska homeschoolers attended the Education Committee?s public hearing on the most restrictive homeschooling bill introduced there in over 20 years, making it the biggest turnout ever for a public hearing in the state." That's in Nebraska.
The problem is in California the whole thing started by a family that homeschooled seven of their children. One of the children "complained" to someone that he or she felt the Dad was abusive.

And like the state of Communistifornia loves it jumped on the opportunity to "protect" the child. Here is the thing, homeschooling in California has been illegal since 1953! The governor is now saying that the ruling is outrageous. So I'm a little more confident that it will most likely go nowhere.
Most homeschoolers and parents of homeschoolers did nothing, and continue to homeschool as they always have done. Which I was glad to see.

I can't leave California because of several reasons. I can share them with you at another time.
God bless!
