Does anyone actually live in SC and know about homeschooling requirements? When I move in the next couple of years I want to make sure that I am in a place where I do not have to answer to the state about the details of my children's education.

Matthew, good to hear from you again.

I spend some time on city-data.com South Carolina forums and a couple of people that live there post the following:

"You may want to check into SCAIHS. South Carolina Association for Independent Home Schools. You can become a member with $300.00 for the first child and a tad more for other children. I only have one. They have a book store and people there are always helpful with curriculum or whatever your need. Once a member you fill out the progress reports online, SCAIHS will review, if everything is well they will send in the proper documents to proper people for credits, if not, they will let you know. The books are christian based, if you so choose. I can't say enough about their kind attitudes."

You voice my concerns as well.  I have three children.  Two are school age and one soon will be.  Let me know what you find out?

Hello,
I am wondering how many homeschoolers are in this group and, where you are from? I live in Michigan and, right now we do not have to report anything to anyone, which is nice for us, I am wondering if anyone is currently living in SC and if they would be willing to share any likes or dislikes of the homeschool association? Also, are there other associations besides the one listed above?
 Thanks so much,
 Marie

we homeschooled all 4 of our children upon moving here from Michigan I cant believe the schools here they are so bad if you don't want to have to account to the school district you need to be with a organization we went with Insights on Education I believe it is out of Greenville it cost like $30.00-$35.00 per year for a whole family and there are just guidelines to follow you can use them or not it is up to you, you will still receive transcripts for the HighSchoolers we used it until they all graduated

You can find out the requirements for SC at the Home School Legal Defense Assoc (HSLDA) website:

http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=SC

There is something bouncing around the legislature as we speak which will increase reportin requirements by the individual associations.

I am already in South Carolina.  We have one child still in the "education" system; 6th grade.

We are trying now to decide what will be the best strategy for the next five years of our son's education.  Though we feel he is in one of the best locations at present, the school board could completely rezone, rethink, retool, whatever the entire Public School map between now and fall startup.

My wife has just recently found this site: http://www.connectionsacademy.com/state/home.asp?schoolCode=scca

What is this?  PUBLIC SCHOOLING FROM HOME?
